Tarot Time!

Updated: Nov 28, 2019

When I was younger, I was obsessed with the tarot and all the wisdom it provided. Back in those days, information was not at your fingertips. It was in the library. When it was open. Or at a bookstore. If you had money to buy books. There was no Google or Overdrive, Cloud Library, or Axis360 to get instant information. The books I had (and still have) weren’t as easy to understand as ones available these days. Or maybe the way I understand what I read has changed. Who knows. Also, folk are much more open about what they are into these days, aren’t they? Whether it’s witchcraft, BDSM, or even being vegan. Anything goes!

I found an app I like called Galaxy Tarot. There is a “Card of the Day,” which help you learn about the suits and symbolism of the deck bit by bit. You can virtually draw cards for readings as well. I often do the three card Past, Present, Future spread with my own deck, which is a straight-forward as it sounds. Today I used the app to do a Four Card General Spread. It shows:

1. The Situation

2. The Challenge, or what is difficult for you about this situation

3. Advice for overcoming the challenge

4. The Outcome!

My cards were The Empress, The Three of Swords, The Ten of Wands, and The Four of Wands.

The question in my mind was about having a technology-based position for the fall, either as a teacher or a staff developer. Usually these readings are vague or to the negative, but today’s was surprisingly positive. I suppose it’s using “stinkin’ thinkin’” to assume good news is surprising, so I’ll just say it was a positive prediction.

The challenge card, Three of Swords, can appear frightening when you look at it. But it really indicates that pain can lead us to growth if we take steps to fix it. Meaning get out of that relationship, that job, or those thinking patterns. I recently had a cyst drained and when I see the swords in the heart, I imagine the scalpel letting all the infection out to make room for fresh blood to come in and heal. And that certainly fits with the way I’ve been feeling about my pedagogical future.

The advice card, Ten of Wands, looks a fright, also. Look at the poor fellow burdened down with carrying all those staffs. That’s exactly what this card symbolizes. Overburdening oneself to the point of resentment, which is also how I feel. To me, this means while I need to be active and proactive in finding a job more suited to my abilities for the fall, I also need to look for gratification elsewhere. Hence, my blog!

The outcome card, Four of Wands, is just what you want to see. It’s in line with what I’d want to see, anyway. This is a card of completion, gratitude and life transition. The message could not be clearer, and I feel a lot better about the future. Just look at that card, the ladies (or men??) are soo happy! I’m going to join them, how about you?

I went a little nuts this past summer for Prime Day. I bought oracle cards and tarot cards and had a blast cleansing them with palo santo and white sage. My home smelled amazing when I was finished. I adore my cards, some of them come in boxes that make a lovely permanent home for the cards. I urge you to support your local crystal shops for the smudging tools and build a relationship with the shop owner, otherwise my links will direct you to excellent quality products.

What decks do you like? I have a Rider-Waite deck from years ago and recently acquired Whispers of Healing Oracle Cards, The Tarot of the Trees, Forest of Enchantment Tarot, Everyday Witch Tarot, Medicine Woman Tarot Deck, Shadowscapes Tarot Deck, Crystal Visions Tarot Deck, The Herbcrafter's Tarot, Tarot of Pagan Cats, both macro and micro versions. And just to be fair, the Divine Dog Wisdom Deck, because how could you not??
